Senior Vice President, Editorial and General Manager of Paramount Africa, and Lead, BET
International Monde Twala is responsible for driving the development and growth of powerhouse
music, youth and entertainment brands MTV, MTV Base and BET Africa as well kids and family
brands Nickelodeon and Comedy Central across the African continent.
In his BET International
role, Twala leads on driving black culture and diverse voices across the UK, France and Africa by
bringing audiences the stories, music, news, lifestyle and talent that need to be seen and heard.
After over two decades in the industry Twala has developed a diverse understanding of the African
broadcast landscape, with expertise that span multiple content genres including sports,
documentary, drama, soaps, news and current affairs, reality, short and long formats.
Since joining Paramount, he has been part of the team that continues to develop and has
spearheaded the iconic MTV Africa Music Awards, working alongside local production teams to
create relevant programming in diverse formats from MTV Newsish, BET Breaks, scripted
biopics, and reality formats. Twala has led BET’s continued celebration of black excellence and
culture with the introduction of local production reality-based formats from news lifestyle and
magazine programmes such as A List, The Big Secret headlining socialite and actress Khanyi Mbau, Fix My Love featuring actress, dancer and choreographer, Khabonina Qubeka and Made in
Africa, a fashion series hosted and co-produced by multi-talented style queen, Nandi Madida.
The Made in Africa series based on fashion for Africans by Africans was a joint venture funded
partnership between BET, the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and
Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and the KZN Film Commission.
The veteran South African broadcast executive joined the Paramount Africa family in April 2016
after nearly 20 years of experience in the South African broadcasting and media industry, where
he previously worked for public broadcaster SABC, and South Africa’s largest FTA commercial
channel, e.tv. In 2019, Twala was appointed to the board of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation with
which he has worked closely in supporting local development of the MTV Shuga Down South and
Naija youth education series in South Africa and Nigeria.
Natural leadership ability, insightful and people-focused are synonymous with Twala in the
industry. His love for sport has also taught him to be a committed team player. He has a deep
passion for youth development and leveraging the power of content to inspire positive impact. His
commitment to youth development and mentorship are set to position him as one of Africa’s most
influential business leaders. Twala lives by the traditional African adage ‘Umuntu nguMuntu
ngaBantu’ – ‘It’s the people around us, who make us who we are’ – which continues to guide him in
his inclusive leadership approach.
He holds a WBS Map Advanced Management Degree from Wits Business School in South Africa
with an academic focus on Marketing, Business Management, Consumer & Buyer Behaviour, and
Economics. Twala serves as Chairman to the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa and is a
proud alumnus of the ViacomCBS (now Paramount) leadership studio program.
